After the wedding

Image
Yesterday myself and Stephen went to a wedding out in Faithlegg House Hotel. I don't go to a whole of weddings because not a whole lot of people I know very well are getting married so its been quite a while since I have been called to attend one. I didn't know the bride or groom because they were friends of Stephen's from way back and they hadn't lived in Ireland in years so they had come home for a few weeks to get married. We were up early yesterday morning getting ready for the big day myself in the the flouncy dress and Stephen in a three piece suit. Here I am all dolled up  My hair looks a bit meh and flat but I had realised far too late that I actually should have gotten an updo and my own hair styling talents are incredibly limited so I felt it was best to just play it safe. Besides I had just survived a complete dress disaster moments before we were due to leave I discovered a stain on my dress which was possibly hair dye. I had dyed my hair the other

The Diet myth

Image
Last night I was reading a really interesting article on around fitness and health and it was talking about how certain experts that become popular do so with financial gain in mind and so may not be offering you the best health advice. A lot of it seems to be a marketing ploy, a way to draw people in because the truth of the matter is that people want to know the easier way of doing things and if there's some secret weapon to help you lose weight then people will want to use it. One of the things, they debunked in their litany of diet myths, was bulletproof coffee. If are unfamiliar with Bulletproof coffee the idea is that you put a spoon full of butter in your coffee and the fat in the butter stops you from becoming hungry later in the day and also boosts your metabolism. I am not certain about the last part but I do know I was sceptical when I first heard about it but I did toy with the idea of trying it but ultimately the idea of drinking my coffee with butter added made me

Weekend at Waterford walls

Image
This weekend Waterford came alive with colour as derelict buildings became a canvas for some amazing art. Waterford Walls is a three day festival and this is the first time anything like this has happened in Ireland. It's a project that was a long time in the making and the central premise was to invite a number of prominent artists to paint something of their choosing, mostly run down or derelect buildings and the city has been transformed over the last three days as a result. My boyfriend has been talking about it for several months so I knew it was coming up but I don't think I really understood the full scale of it until I found myself wandering around the city streets trying to get a look at all the different pieces. There are twenty two pieces in total and there was also ; an art exhibition, live demonstrations, a talk by Louis Masai, music and food in New Street Gardens and an after hours club with live music in Phil Grimes. I can't say I saw everything but I certa

Banking rhymes with .......

Image
Today I am feeling very angry indeed with my bank. I am also feeling a little hormonal which probably explains the depth of my anger but not the reason for it. I currently bank with Permanent Tsb, I was with Bank of Ireland many years ago but they kept hitting me up with ridiculous charges so I moved to a better bank or so I thought. They closed their main branch in town and until I moved recently the two remaining banks were in awkward locations. That is not what this is rant is about though. I moved about a month ago and since I got to the new place I had been telling myself I must update the bank with my new address because my bank card was due to run out in the next few months but I didn't particularly feel like queuing in the bank, I couldn't find information in my online banking on how to do it and when you phone Open 24 , their telephone service, you are faced with a litany of options and none of them seem to apply to your situation or get you on the phone with an ac

Other peoples weddings.

I don't go to a whole lot of weddings. I don't have a litany of reasons beyond the fact that I dont know a whole lot of people getting married. I can't say I know for sure but I do get a sneaking suspicion that it's frowned upon to gate crash the weddings of strangers. In case you're wondering where I'm going with this, I have been invited to a wedding. Actually I stand corrected, my boyfriend has been invited to a wedding and I am his plus one. The wedding invite has been sitting tucked away in a drawer being happily ignored. I booked the day off work when the invite first arrived and seeing as the wedding is in Waterford that's my bit done for now or so I thought. As it happens this wedding is taking place this coming Thursday and it hit me on Tuesday how completely unprepared I was for this occasion. I know off the top of my head that I dont own a single item of clothing that could be worn to a wedding without turning a few heads for all the wrong re

How to tell if you are too old for festivals

Image
This weekend myself and Stephen made a trip to Dun Laoghaire to a festival called The Beatyard. It was on in Dun Laoghaire harbour over two days and they had cordoned the area off and set up lots of stands plus loads of bars, an area dedicated to sneakers and another dedicated to retro games and so on. On the Saturday I am told it was the perfect weather for it, lots of lovely sun and what not. Sadly we had not purchased a weekend pass and we only went up for the Sunday. I didn't know much about the acts playing but Stephen is always keeping an eye out for quirky festivals as you do when your girlfriend is not willing to camp or a fan of very large crowds. So we headed to Dublin yesterday the old fashioned way courtesy of Bus Eireann. Thanks to my car for having a brake malfunction just after pay-day and ensuring I was down €195 meaning the train was too damn pricey for me. We got to Dublin bright and early and got the dart out to Dun Laoghaire and then headed to the park to
